About Us
HISTORY
I moved to Nashville from Wisconsin in 1986, and for over 30 years I have provided various specialty concrete services in the Nashville market and surrounding area. I come from a lineage of ambitious concrete contractors.
My grandfather, Arthur Westerlund, immigrated to the United States from Sweden in the late 1800’s and promptly moved to the similarly cold and harsh environment of Duluth Minnesota. Sifting through glacial deposits on the land he acquired, he worked hard and established a successful sand/gravel company.
My father Robert Westerlund had humble beginnings as a mason contractor building walls and tinkering with concrete pumps with his brother, my uncle Herb. Together they began building their own concrete pumps, and eventually started a company called Construction Forms. My father and uncle each hold several patents in the concrete pumping manufacturing industry, and today Construction Forms Inc. is a leading manufacturer of concrete pumping systems.
“It could be said that concrete runs in my veins.”
– John Westerlund

MORE ABOUT JOHN WESTERLUND
I chose to relocate to the great city of Nashville, because I saw it’s potential for growth, and growth meant concrete…tons of concrete! I began by working for Leon Syler , Nashville’s original concrete pump contractor and in 1989, I purchased a pump and branched out on my own as Westerlund Concrete, Inc. I started by providing concrete pumping services such as core filling masonry walls, pumping small slabs, and shooting swimming pools. It wasn’t long before I was receiving inquiries from plant managers, engineers, and general contractors asking if I would be interested in taking on the challenges of specialty projects. I became a go-to guy for just about any project involving the combination of concrete and structural issues. Eventually it became necessary for me to narrow my focus, and today Westerlund Shotcrete has a superior reputation specializing in Shotcrete and related services.
